FLM CERAMICS DINNERWARE
About our Dinnerware
Like our tile, FLM Ceramics stoneware is hard to place on any timeline; it fits in a contemporary kitchen, yet it references the past, it’s like antique ware from any given part of the world though it’s meant to be used daily. It is as comfortable on a formal dining table as it is in your car's drink holder, and like cast iron it gets better with age.
Designed by Forrest Lesch-Middelton, and made by a small team in Petaluma, California, our dinnerware is pressed and trimmed, and a pattern is applied by skillful hands so that each pot retains a unique feel from one to the next.
Caring for your FLM Ceramics Stoneware
Like cast iron, our stoneware is best when it is used often and cared for properly. It is dishwasher and microwave safe, and although seasoning our stoneware is not a necessity it is recommended periodically. Each of our pieces will come to you “pre-seasoned”, this process allows the outer unglazed surface to absorb the natural oil and repel future oils and stains making it easier to care for and clean. Though our pots are vitrified and impermeable, we recommend that you wipe down your pots with mineral or walnut oil annually. After applying a mild amount of oil let the pot sit for about 5 minutes and then wipe clean. We eat from ours at home, run them through the dishwasher, and love the way they patina over time. We have never re-seasoned ours and they have stood the test of time with no blemishes or stains which we attribute to their regular use! Additionally, all of our pieces including those with glaze are non-toxic and food safe.
FAQ
Are your pots dishwasher safe?
Yes! Wash away! A dishwasher is less likely to drop or break your pot than you are.
Are your pots microwave safe?
Yes! Zap away! Our dinnerware doesn’t contain any metals that are reactive with microwaves.
Since the plates are not glazed can I eat off of them?
Yes! We eat off of ours all of the time and just like a cast iron pan seasons with time so will your dinnerware. Foods with highly saturated color (beet salad, saffron rice, skittles sundaes) may discolor your plate right away but fade back over a few washings.
My pot looks like it has wrinkles or creases.
We get images onto the pots by screen printing a clay slip onto paper and then applying that paper onto the piece with a transfer slip (think ceramic temporary tattoo). The creases or wrinkles you are seeing are actual folds in the paper as it goes from a 2D flat print to a 3D object. There will be slight variations from pot to pot based on the image transfer and firing process. While we try to limit wrinkles, they do show up from time to time. If you are someone who prefers 100% uniformity maybe pottery by robots is more for you!
